My brother and I are doing this in homor/memory of our mom, Margaret Sonntag who lost her battle with ALS in March of 2017 year. This is the third year for us to participate in this very worthy cause.
This is very near and dear to me and my brother. For those of you who are lucky enough to have not been affected or watched first hand what ALS does to a person, count your blessings. It is a death sentence. Upon diagnosis, which can take a while as everyone is different, the average life span is 3 to 5 years. During that time the disease takes away your ability to walk, talk, swallow and eventually breath. It generally does not take away your mind. You are fully aware of what is happening to you, but there is nothing you can do about it but fight each and every day for one more good day.
My mom was my best friend. She was a vibrant woman loved by so many. She gave of herself to whoever needed help. Watching her go from this active person who lived life to the fullest deteriorate before our eyes is something I would never wish for anyone to experience. There is nothing worse than losing someone you love so much, a little at a time until they are a glimpse of what they once were.
I am asking you, my friends and family, please join me in this fight for a cure. Come walk with my team, make a donation, spread awareness, everything matters and makes a difference. Many companies will match donations. It is a tax deduction too! Please consider helping me reach my goal again this year. We need a cure!
We have seen first hand what this disease does and how fast it progresses. Mom lived just over 3 years after her diagnosis. We are walking to raise money to find a cure so future generations don't have to experience what we did.
Thank you for helping us reach our fund raising goal! Together we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Our team is committed to raising money to support people in our community with ALS and spread awareness of the urgency to find treatment and a cure. Please consider joining our team in the Walk to Defeat ALS® or choose a team member from the list and donate to our cause.
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
